The 2008-2011 Kawasaki KLX140 KLX140L is a fuel-injected, four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled motorcycle. It has a displacement of 144 cc (8.8 cu in) and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. The KLX140L has a kickstarter and electric start, while the KLX140 has only an electric starter. Both models have a five-speed transmission and a chain final drive.

Engine

The KLX140's engine is based on the KLX110's engine, but with a number of significant changes. The bore and stroke have been increased from 50 mm × 55.6 mm (1.97 in × 2.19 in) to 54 mm × 58.6 mm (2.13 in × 2.31 in), increasing the displacement from 112 cc (6.8 cu in) to 144 cc (8.8 cu in). The compression ratio has also been increased from 9.3:1 to 10.0:1.

The KLX140's engine also features a number of other changes over the KLX110's engine, including:

• A new cylinder head with larger valves and a revised combustion chamber
• A new camshaft with revised timing
• A new piston with a higher compression ratio
• A new connecting rod with a revised length
• A new crankshaft with a revised counterweight
• A new oil pump with a higher capacity
• A new water pump with a revised impeller

Transmission

The KLX140's transmission is a five-speed, constant-mesh transmission with a wet multi-plate clutch. The transmission ratios are as follows:

Chassis

The KLX140's chassis is based on the KLX110's chassis, but with a number of significant changes. The frame has been reinforced and the swingarm has been extended. The suspension has also been upgraded, with a new front fork with 33 mm (1.3 in) stanchions and a new rear shock with a 30 mm (1.2 in) piston.

Brakes

The KLX140's brakes are a single 220 mm (8.7 in) disc brake on the front and a single 190 mm (7.5 in) disc brake on the rear. The brakes are actuated by a hydraulic system.

Wheels and Tires

The KLX140's wheels are 14-inch black steel rims with aluminium spokes. The tires are 21-inch front and 18-inch rear IRC tires.
