The Yamaha TZR250 is a 250 cc (15.3 cu in) two-stroke, parallel-twin motorcycle produced by Yamaha from 1987 to 1995. It was originally intended to be a race-ready machine, but was homologated for road use to meet FIM homologation requirements.
The TZR250 was powered by a liquid-cooled, two-stroke engine with a bore and stroke of 56 mm × 50 mm (2.2 in × 2.0 in). The engine was fed by a 34 mm Mikuni carburetor and produced 45 PS (33 kW) at 9,500 rpm. The engine was mated to a six-speed transmission.
The TZR250 had a steel-tube frame and aluminum swingarm. The front suspension consisted of a 35 mm telescopic fork, and the rear suspension consisted of a monoshock with a rising-rate linkage. The TZR250 had a curb weight of 135 kg (298 lb).
The TZR250 was a successful racing machine, winning the 250 cc class of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing world championship in 1987 and 1988. The TZR250 was also popular with road riders, and was known for its high-revving engine and agile handling.
The TZR250 was discontinued in 1995, but it remains a popular motorcycle with collectors and enthusiasts.
