1940 - 1952 Harley Davidson model 42 WLA WLG Description

The Harley-Davidson WLA was a military motorcycle produced by the Harley-Davidson Motor Company for the United States Army during World War II. It was based on the civilian Harley-Davidson WL model, but with several modifications for military use, including a heavier frame, a larger fuel tank, a blackout headlight, and a toolbox mounted on the rear fender. The WLA was used by the US Army in a variety of roles, including reconnaissance, dispatch, and courier duty. It was also used by the British Army, the French Army, and the Soviet Army.

The WLA was powered by a 45-cubic-inch (750 cc) side-valve V-twin engine that produced 23 horsepower at 4,200 rpm. The engine was mated to a three-speed transmission. The WLA had a top speed of 65 mph (105 km/h) and a range of 150 miles (240 km).

The WLA was a reliable and durable motorcycle that was well-suited for military use. It was easy to maintain and repair, and it could be ridden in a variety of conditions. The WLA was also relatively inexpensive to produce, making it a good value for the US Army.

After World War II, the WLA was surplussed and many were sold to the public. Today, the WLA is a popular collector's item and is often used in vintage motorcycle races.
