DUCATI 998, 998R, 998S, 998RS Motorcycles
The DUCATI 998, 998R, 998S, and 998RS are a family of four-stroke, liquid-cooled, 998 cc (60.9 cu in) displacement, V-twin cylinder, high-performance motorcycles produced by Ducati from 2002 to 2004. They were the successors to the 916, 996, and 996R models and were the last of Ducati's Superbike series to use a desmodromic valve system.
The 998 was introduced in 2002 and was available in both standard and S versions. The standard 998 featured a steel trellis frame, Showa suspension, and Brembo brakes, while the 998S featured a lighter aluminum frame, Öhlins suspension, and Brembo radial-mount brakes. Both models were powered by a 998 cc, Testastretta engine that produced 123 horsepower (92 kW) at 9,500 rpm and 105 ft-lb (142 N⋅m) of torque at 8,000 rpm.
In 2003, Ducati introduced the 998R, a limited-edition, track-focused version of the 998. The 998R featured a number of upgrades over the standard 998, including a lighter carbon fiber frame, Öhlins suspension, Brembo radial-mount brakes, and a titanium exhaust system. The engine was also tuned to produce 130 horsepower (97 kW) at 10,000 rpm and 108 ft-lb (146 N⋅m) of torque at 8,500 rpm.
In 2004, Ducati introduced the 998S, a limited-edition, street-legal version of the 998R. The 998RS featured a number of upgrades over the standard 998S, including a lighter aluminum frame, Öhlins suspension, and Brembo radial-mount brakes. The engine was also tuned to produce 130 horsepower (97 kW) at 10,000 rpm and 108 ft-lb (146 N⋅m) of torque at 8,500 rpm.
