The Datsun A10 and A12 engines are inline-four piston engines designed by Nissan Motor Company for use in a variety of Datsun vehicles. The A10 was introduced in 1971, followed by the A12 in 1973. Both engines shared the same basic design, but the A12 had a slightly larger displacement (1198 cc vs. 1081 cc).

The A10 and A12 engines were both overhead-valve designs, with two valves per cylinder. The valves were actuated by a single camshaft located in the cylinder head. The engines featured a cast-iron block and cylinder head, with a forged-steel crankshaft. The connecting rods were made of forged steel, and the pistons were made of aluminum alloy.

The A10 and A12 engines were both designed for use in compact cars and light trucks. They were known for their durability and reliability, and they were used in a wide variety of vehicles, including the Datsun 1200, 1400, and 1600, as well as the Nissan Sunny and Cherry.

The A10 and A12 engines were discontinued in the early 1980s, but they remain popular among enthusiasts today. They are known for their relatively simple design, which makes them easy to maintain and repair. They are also known for their performance potential, and they have been used in a variety of racing applications.
