JCB 714 and 718 Articulated Dump Truck
Introduced in 1979 as 4WD versions of the popular JCB 410 and 418 2WD models, the 714 and 718 articulated dump trucks took on the challenge of the construction industry's drive towards larger machines that could move more material more quickly and efficiently. The 714 and 718 filled that need with a 13 and 17 ton payload capacity, respectively.
With a long-standing history of manufacturing backhoe loaders and earth-moving equipment, JCB looked to its large equipment lines to provide the power for its 714 and 718 dump trucks. The JCB 714 utilizes the Perkins 1104D-44T, a four-cylinder, turbocharged 4.4-liter engine that produces 145 horsepower and 406 ft-lb of torque. The JCB 718 comes equipped with a six-cylinder version of the Perkins engine, designated the 1106D-44TA that cranks out 173 hp and 516 ft-lb of torque. The 714's engine uses a high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system, while the 718 uses a mechanically controlled fuel injection system. Electronic control systems on both models monitor engine and transmission performance and adjust operational parameters as needed.
Hydrostatic all-wheel drive brings JCB's proven 4WS (four-wheel steering) system to the 714 and 718 dump trucks. The driveline features a torque converter and hydrostatic transmission with twin axial piston pumps and a separate closed center load-sensing system providing optimum control and efficiency regardless of operating conditions. All four wheels have individual wet disc brakes with the optional anti-lock braking system and four-wheel traction control providing enhanced stability, particularly on rough terrain.
The ROPS/FOPS Level II cabs on the 714 and 718 models feature tinted glass, a climate-controlled environment with adjustable airflow, a Grammer air-suspension seat, joystick controls, and a suspension system that reduces vibrations and provides a comfortable ride. An optional rearview camera provides additional visibility, while the display screen doubles as a reversing camera monitor. The display screen also provides access to maintenance information and systems monitoring.
The curved sheet-metal rear body provides excellent visibility and optimizes material flow. The 714 model can accommodate up to 17.6 cubic yards of material, while the 718 has a heaped capacity of 20.6 cubic yards. The 714 and 718 can handle a wide range of job site conditions due to their low ground pressure, excellent traction, and stability, resulting in increased productivity and efficiency in a variety of applications.
