**1997-1999 Chrysler Cirrus & Dodge Stratus**

**Overview**

The Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus, midsize sedans introduced in 1995, underwent a comprehensive redesign for the 1997 model year. This second-generation duo showcased a sleeker and more modern design, along with a range of advancements in technology and safety features.

**Exterior Design**

The Cirrus and Stratus shared a common exterior design, characterized by its aerodynamic curves and a distinctive split grille. The elongated hood flowed seamlessly into a curved windshield, enhancing visibility and aerodynamics. The side profile featured a sloping roofline that culminated in a spoiler-like trunk lid, contributing to the car's sporty stance.

**Interior Design**

Inside, both vehicles offered a spacious and ergonomically designed cabin. The instrument panel was angled towards the driver, providing easy access to controls and gauges. High-quality materials and soft-touch surfaces adorned the dashboard, door panels, and seats, creating a comfortable and luxurious atmosphere.

**Powertrain**

The 1997-1999 Cirrus and Stratus were available with a choice of two powertrains:

* **2.4L DOHC 16-Valve Inline-Four:** This base engine produced 150 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, providing adequate power for daily driving.
* **2.5L DOHC 24-Valve V6:** The optional V6 engine offered increased performance, generating 172 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines were paired with either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission.

**Suspension and Handling**

The Cirrus and Stratus featured a sophisticated suspension system designed to provide a smooth and responsive driving experience. The front suspension employed MacPherson struts with coil springs, while the rear suspension utilized a multi-link design with coil springs and a stabilizer bar. This combination ensured excellent stability, handling, and ride comfort.

**Safety Features**

Standard safety features on the 1997-1999 Cirrus and Stratus included:

* Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
* Dual front airbags
* Side-impact beams
* Three-point seatbelts at all seating positions

Optional safety features included:

* Traction control
* Front passenger side airbag

**Trim Levels**

The Cirrus and Stratus were available in several trim levels, offering a range of features and options:

* **LX:** The base trim level included power windows, locks, and mirrors, as well as a cassette player.
* **SE:** The SE trim added air conditioning, cruise control, and alloy wheels.
* **ES:** The ES trim offered leather upholstery, a power driver's seat, and a sunroof.
* **Limited:** The top-of-the-line Limited trim featured heated seats, an Infinity sound system, and a CD player.

**Legacy**

The 1997-1999 Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus marked a significant improvement over their predecessors. Their sleek design, comfortable interiors, and improved performance made them popular choices in the midsize sedan segment. Both vehicles remained in production until 2000, establishing themselves as reliable and valuable additions to their respective lineups.

There are 3 ways to approach car maintenance/repair.

1. Call your Dealer/Service Center/Workshop. Pay $60 to get your vehicle towed or transported to their shop. Wait a few days for an appointment. Get your car back about a week later, and be a few hundred dollars out of pocket.

Result = $1000 dollars out of pocket, fixed car, empty wallet.

2. Try and fix the problem on your own. Create a shopping list and go and buy a few dollars worth of parts. Start the repair/service. Realize you don't have the rights parts or knowledge to fix it. Go and buy more parts to replace the ones you broke trying to fix the original problem. Keep trying/buying until eventually you are having a breakdown yourself.

Result = $300 dollars spent, hours wasted, car still not fixed.

3. Download the original OEM Factory Service Manual for your vehicle from A1 Manuals. Read and study it to determine the problem/resolution. Create a shopping list and buy a few dollars worth of parts that you actually need. Start the repair...and fix it first time.

Result = $50 spent, repair is done, get on with your life and enjoy the ride.
