### Austin Gipsy 1958-1967
The Austin Gipsy is a British off-road vehicle. Designed to fill the gap between the diminutive Austin Champ and the larger Austin 1-ton, it was launched in 1958 but due to financial issues at Austin, production was outsourced to BMC's Pressed Steel plant in Scotland.

The Gipsy shared its engine and transmission with the 2.0-litre BMC C-series engine and three-speed gearbox from the Austin A50 Cambridge, and was noted for its fresh, modern styling by Pininfarina and ample ground clearance, which contributed to its strong performance off-road. The Gipsy enjoyed a degree of commercial success, with over 21,000 vehicles being produced during its production run, which lasted until 1968.

Despite its rugged design and off-road capabilities, the Austin Gipsy was not without its drawbacks. The vehicle was somewhat underpowered, especially when laden, and the three-speed gearbox was not well-suited for on-road use, resulting in high engine speeds at motorway speeds. Additionally, the Gipsy's bodywork was prone to corrosion, a problem exacerbated by the use of a canvas roof on early models.

However, the Gipsy's off-road capabilities and durable construction made it popular with farmers, foresters and military personnel, who valued its ability to traverse difficult terrain. The vehicle was also used by the British Army, where it served in a variety of roles, including as a general-purpose troop carrier, a light reconnaissance vehicle and as a support vehicle for the 105mm Light Gun.
