Mitsubishi Triton (ME/MH/MJ) 1983-1994

The Mitsubishi Triton (known as the Mitsubishi L200 in various markets) is a range of compact pickup trucks produced by Mitsubishi Motors since 1978. The second generation, designated as the ME/MH/MJ series, was produced from 1983 to 1994.

Design

The Triton ME/MH/MJ adopted a more modern and aerodynamic design compared to its predecessor. It featured a squarish cabin with a wrap-around windshield and a large grille. The front fenders were flared to accommodate the wider track, while the rear featured a traditional pickup bed with a tailgate.

Body and Chassis

The Triton ME/MH/MJ was available in three body styles: a two-door single cab, a four-door double cab, and a five-door crew cab. The chassis was based on a ladder frame with a solid front axle and leaf springs at the rear. The suspension consisted of coil springs at the front and leaf springs at the rear.

Engine and Transmission

The Triton ME/MH/MJ was offered with a wide range of gasoline and diesel engines. The gasoline engines included a 1.6-liter I4, a 2.0-liter I4, and a 2.6-liter V6. The diesel engines included a 2.3-liter I4 and a 2.5-liter I4.

The transmission options included a five-speed manual, a four-speed automatic, and a two-speed transfer case for four-wheel drive models.

Four-Wheel Drive System

The Triton ME/MH/MJ featured a part-time four-wheel drive system with a selectable low-range gear. The four-wheel drive system was engaged via a lever on the center console.

Features and Equipment

The Triton ME/MH/MJ was available in various trim levels, offering a range of features and equipment. These included power windows, power locks, air conditioning, a cassette player, and a trip computer.

Variants

In addition to the standard pickup truck, the Triton ME/MH/MJ was also available in several specialized variants, including:

* Strada: A single-cab pickup with a shortened bed and a more sporty appearance.
* Wagon: A double-cab pickup with a hardtop over the bed.
* Space Gear: A wagon with a raised roof and seating for up to six passengers.
