Morris Minor Series MM Series II and 1000
The Morris Minor is a British small family car that was produced by Morris Motors Limited from 1948 until 1971. It was the first British car to sell over one million units. The Minor was designed by Alec Issigonis and was based on the Morris Oxford MO. The Minor was available in two-door saloon, four-door saloon, two-door convertible, and two-door estate body styles. The Minor was powered by a 948 cc A-Series engine. The Series II Minor was introduced in 1952 and featured a number of improvements over the original model. These included a new grille, new bumpers, and new interior trim. The Series II Minor was also available with a new 1,098 cc engine. The 1000 was introduced in 1956 and was essentially a Series II Minor with a larger engine. The 1000 was available in two-door saloon, four-door saloon, two-door convertible, and two-door estate body styles. The 1000 was powered by a 948 cc A-Series engine.
Engine
The Morris Minor Series MM Series II and 1000 were powered by a 948 cc or 1,098 cc four-cylinder A-Series engine. The engine was mounted longitudinally at the front of the car and drove the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The engine was inclined at an angle of 45 degrees to the vertical to reduce the height of the bonnet. The engine had a cast-iron block and head, with a single overhead camshaft. The valves were operated by pushrods and rocker arms. The engine was fitted with a single SU carburetor.
Transmission
The Morris Minor Series MM Series II and 1000 were fitted with a four-speed manual transmission. The transmission was located at the rear of the car and was connected to the engine by a propeller shaft. The gear lever was mounted on the floor. The transmission was synchronized on all forward gears.
Suspension
The Morris Minor Series MM Series II and 1000 had independent front suspension and a live rear axle. The front suspension consisted of coil springs and wishbones. The rear suspension consisted of leaf springs and a Panhard rod. The suspension was designed to provide a comfortable ride and good handling.
Brakes
The Morris Minor Series MM Series II and 1000 had hydraulic brakes. The brakes were operated by a master cylinder that was mounted on the firewall. The master cylinder was connected to the brake pedal by a pushrod. The brakes were servo-assisted to reduce the effort required to operate them.
Steering
The Morris Minor Series MM Series II and 1000 had rack and pinion steering. The steering rack was mounted on the front subframe. The steering column was connected to the steering rack by a universal joint. The steering was designed to provide a light and precise feel.
Body
The Morris Minor Series MM Series II and 1000 had a steel body. The body was mounted on a separate chassis. The body was designed to be lightweight and durable. The body was finished in a variety of colors.
Interior
