Engine and Drivetrain

The Kawasaki KLR 650 is a single-cylinder, dual-purpose motorcycle manufactured by Kawasaki from 1987 to 2004. It was powered by a 651 cc (39.7 cu in) four-stroke engine with a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) and four valves per cylinder. The engine was fueled by a 34 mm (1.3 in) Keihin constant-velocity carburetor and had a compression ratio of 9.5:1. The KLR 650 was available with either a five-speed transmission or a six-speed transmission. The final drive was a chain.

Chassis and Suspension

The KLR 650 had a steel double-cradle frame with a 58.3 in (1,480 mm) wheelbase. The front suspension consisted of a 41 mm (1.6 in) Showa telescopic fork with 7.9 in (200 mm) of travel. The rear suspension consisted of a Uni-Trak single-shock absorber with a remote reservoir and 7.1 in (180 mm) of travel. The KLR 650 had a ground clearance of 10.2 in (260 mm) and a seat height of 34.8 in (884 mm).

Brakes and Wheels

The KLR 650 had a single 270 mm (10.6 in) disc brake in the front and a single 240 mm (9.4 in) disc brake in the rear. The wheels were spoke-type with aluminum rims and were fitted with 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tires.

Performance

The KLR 650 had a top speed of 105 mph (169 km/h) and a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) time of 4.9 seconds. The fuel economy was 50 mpg (21 km/l) in the city and 60 mpg (25 km/l) on the highway.
