VEHICLE/EQUIPMENT INTRODUCTION:
The Citroen BX was one of the most innovative and distinctive family cars of the 1980s and early 1990s. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, its angular wedge-shaped body was unlike anything else on the market and made an unmistakable statement on European roads. Launched in 1982, the BX became famous for its hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension borrowed directly from Citroen prestige models, providing an otherworldly ride quality that no rival could match. Under the skin, the BX featured front-wheel drive, torsion-bar assisted hydropneumatic spheres at each corner, and a range of engines from frugal 1360cc units up to the 1905cc found in the BX GTI and 16-valve variants. The diesel models became legendary for their extraordinary fuel economy. The BX was available as a five-door hatchback, estate (Break), and in performance-oriented GT and 16V guises. Over its 12-year production run, more than 2.3 million BX units were built at Citroen Rennes plant. The model remains a beloved classic celebrated for its daring design and revolutionary suspension.
