The Volvo 960, S90, and V90 are a series of executive cars produced by Swedish automaker Volvo from 1990 to 1998. The 960 replaced the 760, while the S90 and V90 were introduced as new models. The 960 was available as a 4-door sedan, while the S90 was a 4-door sedan with a longer wheelbase and the V90 was a 5-door station wagon.

All three models were powered by a variety of inline-6 and V8 engines, and were available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The 960 and S90 were also available with a turbocharged engine.

The Volvo 960, S90, and V90 were praised for their safety, performance, and comfort. They were also relatively expensive, and were not as popular as some of their competitors.

The Volvo 960 was discontinued in 1998, while the S90 and V90 were discontinued in 1997. They were replaced by the Volvo S80 and V70.

## Design and Engineering
The Volvo 960, S90, and V90 were designed by Volvo's in-house design team, led by Jan Wilsgaard. The cars were based on the Volvo 900 platform, which was also used for the Volvo 940 and 960 estates.

The 960, S90, and V90 were all designed with a focus on safety. The cars featured a number of safety features, including airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control. The 960 and S90 also featured a system called Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), which was designed to protect occupants in the event of a side impact.

The 960, S90, and V90 were powered by a variety of inline-6 and V8 engines. The 960 was available with a 2.5-liter inline-6 engine, a 2.9-liter inline-6 engine, or a 3.0-liter V8 engine. The S90 was available with a 2.9-liter inline-6 engine or a 3.0-liter V8 engine. The V90 was available with a 2.5-liter inline-6 engine or a 2.9-liter inline-6 engine.

The 960 and S90 were available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The V90 was only available with all-wheel drive.

From 1996, Volvo renamed the 960 in select markets as Volvo S90 (sedan) and Volvo V90 (wagon) in alignment with the letter-and-number naming scheme used on their other models. This renaming applied to several European countries in late 1996, in North America from late 1996 for the 1997 model year, and in Australia from March 1997.

The new name coincided with an improved air conditioning system.
