The Volkswagen Golf Mk2, also known as the A2 platform, is a compact car produced by Volkswagen from 1983 to 1991. It was the second generation of the Golf, succeeding the original Volkswagen Golf (A1 platform). The Golf Mk2 was available in three and five-door hatchback body styles, and was also offered as a convertible (Cabriolet) from 1987 onwards.

The Golf Mk2 was a significant departure from its predecessor in terms of design. It featured a more modern and aerodynamic shape, with a steeply raked windshield and a more angular profile. The interior was also redesigned, with a new dashboard and center console. The Golf Mk2 was also offered with a wider range of engines than its predecessor, including both gasoline and diesel options.

The Golf Mk2 was a popular car in Europe, and was also sold in North America as the Volkswagen Jetta. The Jetta was essentially a four-door version of the Golf, but with a slightly different front end design. The Jetta was also offered with a wider range of features and options than the Golf, including a more powerful engine and a more luxurious interior.

The Golf Mk2 was a successful car for Volkswagen, and helped to establish the company as a leader in the compact car market. It was replaced by the Volkswagen Golf Mk3 in 1991.

The Golf Mk2 is a well-built and reliable car, and is still popular with enthusiasts today. It is a good choice for anyone looking for a classic Volkswagen that is both stylish and practical.
