The Bricklin SV-1 was a Canadian sports car manufactured by Bricklin Canada from 1974 to 1975. It was the first production car to feature gull-wing doors as standard equipment, and it is also notable for its use of a Ford Windsor V8 engine and a unique body design that was inspired by the Ferrari 365 GTC/4. The Bricklin SV-1 was designed by Malcolm Bricklin, a former Ford executive who had previously founded Subaru of America. He envisioned the SV-1 as a "safety car" that would be both stylish and practical. The car's body was made of a fiberglass-reinforced plastic composite, which was claimed to be stronger and lighter than steel. The SV-1 also featured a number of safety features, including a roll cage, a collapsible steering column, and a reinforced passenger compartment. The Bricklin SV-1 was powered by a 5.8-liter Ford Windsor V8 engine that produced 220 horsepower. The engine was mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The SV-1 had a top speed of 125 miles per hour and could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 7.5 seconds. The Bricklin SV-1 was a commercial failure, with only 2,854 cars being produced. The car was plagued by production delays and quality problems, and it was also overpriced. The Bricklin SV-1 has since become a collector's item, and it is considered to be one of the most iconic cars of the 1970s.
